I will be starting my masters in occupational therapy sometime this year. was wondering if i should entrol in certificate 3 in aged care in order to get a job in aged care.if i do complete certificate 3 in aged care will i be repeating the same thing when i do my masters in ot...therefore a waste of money? will i still be able to find a job (aged care related) while im doing my masters in ot without doing a certificate in aged care? Help From People Who Work In The Aged Care Industry Or With Clients With Challenging Behaviors?
I am currently completing studies in aged care (one more assignment to go!!!) and this last one is on difficult and challenging behavior. i have to pick a behavior recording or assessment tool (apart from a structured observation chart such as a tally sheet, frequency graph or an event record) list how to use the tool and record how often a behavior is occurring, what happened before and after etc. as i work in home and community care i don 't have to personally use assessment tools and charts/ graphs etc. anyone who could possibly help me out with some ideas please??oh gee, that helps. like i was asking about what challenging behavior is. i asked about a tool used to record and identify behavior apart from a tally, graph etc. read the question and if you can 't answer what is actually being asked then please do not answer at all! I 've been an aged care nurse for about 4months and just lost a resident who i was very close to. i made a promise to him that i would visit him the next day as his sisters wasn 't comming to see him that day but befor for i could see him he past away. i did keep my promise and i did go see him. it was very painful for me as i 've never known anyone who has died and never seen a dead person befor does anyone have any tips to help me deal with the loss (Read answers)

I am currently studying aged care by distance education as i work in aged care (home care) and cause i don 't have direct tutor assistance am stuck on this question. i need to give a brief summary of what the rcs is, define the assessment period/ s, explain what the three categories of assessment are and what documentation is required by the following groups *care workers *registered nurses/ directors of care and finally what the care workers role is in relation to rcs. having started in aged care only a month ago and not working directly in a residential age care facility is making some of the questions difficult to answer as homecare is a bit more basic to work in. I am considering going into aged care. i sincerely respect and have a lot of time for the eldery and want to see that they are well looked after. the only issues i face are a. the workload- i have a bit of a bad back, and b.i am quite sensitive to smells so worried if i start feeling a bit sick taking residents to the toilet it will make them embarrassed. i was wondering on peoples personal experiences in the field, did they have these same concerns and were able to overcome them. the other option i have is retail which is what my background is, its unfulfilling but pay and working conditions are probabaly better (Read answers)

I have a freind who has worked in agedcare for 9 years. anyone in agedcare knows its a unforgiving and soul-destroying place to work. my freind recently was involved in an incident where a patient struck my freind twice while my freind was attempting to put the patient on the toilet during a night-shift.this particular patient almost always gets toileted at the same time and is known for putting up some resistance as part of the patients advanced state of dementia.anyway, after the patient struck my friend and hurt my freind a situation occured where my freind gave the ptient a very light tap on the back of the srist and told the patient not to hit.unfortunately for my freind, a new staff member witnessed it and ran off to the boss and dobbed. the witness made an exagerated statement and the matter was investigated.my friend admitted freely to the tap on the wrist but in a shocking display of proceedural unfairness she was terminated immediately. does this sound fair?? I work as a nurse in the aged care sector, and i was wondering if anyone had any advise on how to keep healthy, i work shift work and i seem to pick up every virus that is going around. the flu i now have i just cant seem to get rid of it even after antibolitics, i try to eat right i take multi vitamins etc but i still cant boost my immunity, any ideas would be great.
